The Legend of Zelda
The Legend of Zelda [TLOZ] is an action-adventure game franchise created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka. The Nintendo series focuses on the multiple incarnations of Link, Princess Zelda and Ganondorf in the land of Hyrule. The incarnations of Zelda and Link work to prevent Ganondorf from using the power of the Triforce, a relic from the beginning of Hyrule left by the three goddesses. These goddesses, Din, Farore and Nayru, created the Triforce before leaving the world. Each of the three characters are connected to the three parts of the Triforce; Link to Courage, Zelda to Wisdom and Ganondorf to Power. Upon collecting all three parts the Triforce would grant the user any wish regardless of being good or evil.
There are currently 19 main games along with several spin-offs within the Zelda series spanning across almost 40 years. The plot of the games centers around Link having to rescue/help Princess Zelda and in the end defeat Ganondorf or other main villain. Exploring Hyrule, fighting through dungeons and solving puzzles are established aspects of the franchise and some of the most remembered. These mechanics allow the player to interact with a large cast of characters of various races. The large number of games along with the cyclical reincarnation of the main characters has led to a large amount of lore and a somewhat confusing + everchanging timeline. All of this makes The Legend of Zelda series a series I love very dearly.
Why I Love Zelda
The first Zelda game I played was Twilight Princess on my cousin's Wii when I was 12. It was only for an hour but I loved it so much I bought my own copy of the game. I didn't get to play any other Zelda games for a long time until high school when I played a Link to the Past emulator on a school computer. The same year Breath of the Wild came out and I was able to get a switch and play it. I played the game for 12 hours the first day, died alot but I loved every second of it.
I love the Zelda series for alot of reasons but the main one is the world. I have always loved fantasy so this was kinda the perfect series for me. The world of Hyrule is so vast and its lore + characters make it so interesting to delve into. The constant reinvention of the series keeps it new and fresh while maintaining the core aspects I love. It's ability to be goofy and serious make it all the more interesting and keeps you from getting bogged down.
My FavoritesMy favorite Zelda game is Breath of the Wild! It came at a time when I really needed it and I really adore the world and gameplay that came with it. The constant exploration is my favorite part of the game especially when paired with the scaled back score. Despite my over 300 hours in the game I am not the most skilled and still haven't 100%ed it because I get sidetracked with it so easily. I always find a place I haven't been, a cluster of animals or a scenic moment to take a picture.
My favorite Link design however is adult OoT Link (yes I know it's common). I enjoy how clean the design is and how they really leaned into the elf design for Link. The part in the hair and blue earrings are the perfect touches aswell
Zelda's best imo is either her adult Oot look or her A Link to the Past one. Both have really nice ornamentation and are good combinations of the regal + spiritual aspects of Zelda. They also give her big elf ears which I always love to see.
The absolute best Ganondorf design is Totk's. I don't care it's really just perfect with only Windwaker's coming close. The base design shows off Ganondorf as regal and formidable without overdoing it. His other two humanoid designs play into his evil side in different ways. The most formidable Ganon has looked and I love it so much.
